I did not want to give up that easily (don't want to use wine and qt4 is seriously outdated). Thus I deployed ubuntu xenial using vagrant and after some minutes I was able to compile the latest Scrabble3D from subversion. Copied over the x86_64 binary and voila.. joker no longer crashes. If I send you the binary, will be so kind and publish it as a patch next to 32bit one? That would allow me to make a fix in Arch's AUR repository. Thank you, jose
For the record I tried to build the binary in the latest lazarus. There are many UTF-8-related functions that needs to be updated/removed but in the end I failed anyway.
Anyway I did try the hotfix. After extraction I realized that this only contains 32-bit fixed binary and that there is no binary for x86_64. Looks like playing w/o jokers (as suggested by bluesscream) is the only way how to play the game on a current 64-bit Linux system.
hey scotty! long time no see :-) yeah, i did read that but it would be great to see a full release with the hotfix already implemented. any plans to release 3.1.5?
hello, sorry for English but my written/spoken Deutsch is terrible. i could see that the bug is fixed in freepascal. yet, the bug is still present in scrabble3d. can you please update? thanks! jose
despite the nickname i am slovak (which makes my mistake even more embarassing). i am wondering how to fix that.. probably will do dump from openstreetmap data (cities, villages) and subtract those from the current db.
damn, you're right. i terribly misread that rules section. you want to fix that or should i do that (hopefully will find some time this weekend)? anyway it's great to see a user from slovakia here finally. jose
hi scotty, digraphs are not really interesting from scrabble point of view. yes, they exist but it does not change the way how words are calculated or composed..
ok, my bad. anyway, i downloaded ver. 3.1.0 (patch 26g, Test-Scrabble3D-i386.tar.gz) and have already been able to reproduce crash during initial letter placement. also, many times the buttons are just unresponsive. ubuntu 12.04 has been installed directly from cd (no patches downloaded). i will do some more tests.
damn.. i did not realize that scrabble3d uses openGL and i only have a chance to test it in virtual machine. openGL support in virtualbox is poor so after starting scrabble3d i get nothing :-( currently i do not have a testing physical machine i would install ubuntu 12.04 on and i am kinda reluctant to update from already tuned 11.10.. jose
i tried in openbox (lightweight wm) but it changed nothing. anyway i am now pretty convinced the problem lies with the distribution itself. btw this is what i am getting at console:
