They can't is the short answer. We opted for readability versus the ability to type because at the moment, you would have to cope with 12 replacement symbols. Which means first of all you'd have to check the .dic header for the abbreviations used and then type something like 3ÌO2UI7NEA2A3 and no user is going to do that anyway. As we've got the web dictionary "linked" in the Dictionary tab, I'm not worried about that, especially since the other string on this issues suggests that a more user friendly display is on the way at some point anyway.
Ok, I have tweaked the final letter distribution set for Gaelic too. Given it's a bit of a beta, I've not touched the values (currently 114 so not way over) but will wait for feedback on the community for that.
Thanks to Scotty & Linhardt (for the suggestions about taking word length into account) and Kevin for a bit of magic. Interestinly, we were mostly spot on with our manual from-the-linguist's-gut 3rd tweak but out on à, u and astonishingly e. The letter e was way over-represented (ignoring word length, it had 6.3% but somehow ended up with 11 tiles. Oops. Kevin's data suggested 5%) and has dropped -3, the other two have gone up one each. I'm not dropping e any further for now as the demo games still run nicely and there's my gut which warns me against dropping it too low.
So the final-final set for the Saturday release is as follows:
Letter Tiles Value
A 15 1 À 2 5 B 2 3 Ḃ 1 2 C 3 3 Ċ 3 2 D 3 2 Ḋ 3 2 E 7 1 È 1 6 F 1 5 Ḟ 1 5 G 3 3 Ġ 1 5 I 11 1 Ì 1 6 L 3 2 Ḻ 1 8 M 2 3 Ṁ 1 5 N 4 1 Ṉ 1 4 O 4 1 Ò 1 6 P 1 6 Ṗ 1 1 R 5 1 Ṟ 1 8 S 4 1 Ṡ 1 1 T 3 3 Ṫ 3 3 U 3 2 Ù 1 6
could you please check the Gaelic letter set you had posted in your post #21?
Just now I'm helping Scotty with some new files for i18n rules and I'm checking, amongst other things, all the letter sets used in different languages.
Unfortunately I have found some differences between the Gaelic letter set you have posted here in our forum and the Gaelic letter set which is implemented in Scrabble3D. In Scrabble3D we have:
À 1 5 E 10 1 R 4 1 U 2 2
That's why I'm confused now. Please tell me whether the letter set that is implemented in Scrabble3D is correct or not or confirm the letter set in your post #21....
Hm yes good question, I'm racking my brains and it's not throwing up anything useful. However, I'm assuming that I DID have a reason. Also, I've played the game (as have other people) and the AI being evil aside, the letter distribution we currently have is working well, so I'm tempted to retain the current distribution.
So the Scottishgaelic letter set in Scrabble3D will be this one:
Letter Tiles Value . A 15 1 À 1 5 B 2 3 Ḃ 1 2 C 3 3 Ċ 3 2 D 3 2 Ḋ 3 2 E 10 1 È 1 6 F 1 5 Ḟ 1 5 G 3 3 Ġ 1 5 I 11 1 Ì 1 6 L 3 2 Ḻ 1 8 M 2 3 Ṁ 1 5 N 4 1 Ṉ 1 4 O 4 1 Ò 1 6 P 1 6 Ṗ 1 1 R 4 1 Ṟ 1 8 S 4 1 Ṡ 1 1 T 3 3 Ṫ 3 3 U 2 2 Ù 1 6
